More show news...Bonnie-kids are on a roll! We've just received word that Bonnie's yearling son Angus (aka Lionwood Kinsale's Lad) won the purebred Irish Draught yearling class at the South East Regional IDHS(NA) Show. So that makes three homebred, show-winning youngsters from the same RID mare line, all by different sires, in the same week...if that's not girl power I don't know what is!

Three of Bonnie's granddaughters had a banner day! Starting in Iowa at the First Annual Central Region IDHS(NA) Show, Bonnie-girl Glimmer (Lionwood Glimmerglass) won best purebred Irish Draught foal and Bonnie-girl Rowan, aka Lionwood Rowan de la Mer (owned by the Cairns family) won best purebred yearling (ok, so she was the only one in the class but she was so well behaved we think she deserved it!). Both of these exceptional fillies are out of our homebred mare (and Bonnie daughter) Lionwood Waterwitch RID, aka Hermione. If these fillies are any indication, Hermione is well on her way to making a mark on the breed as a broodmare.

Out in Washington state, Bonnie's IDSH granddaughter, Irish Coffee, won the Northwest Sport Horse Breeder's Association Irish Draught Dressage Sport Horse Breed Class and the NWSHBA Irish Draught Championship, in addition to placing well in the open classes at the Region 6 Great American/USDF Breeders Championships Qualifier. Coffee is owned by her breeder Susan Connors and was shown by trainer Jessica Wisdom. Well done ladies!!

We have made the difficult decision to sell our young RID stallion, Harkaway Lionhawk. We felt he was destined for greater opportunities than we were able to provide for him, and so he has moved to Red Ridge Farm in Virginia under the ownership of Tony Phillips and partners. Congratulations to Tony et al...we expect great things from our boy and look forward to watching this lovely stallion make his mark on the breed.

Exciting news from Ireland!! Glimmer's older half-sister Walnut Chase RID (by Huntingfield Proud Tim out of Lennox Christine by Parnell) was named "ALL IRELAND MARE OF THE FUTURE" at the 2005 IDHS(IRE) NATIONAL SHOW after winning her RID mare class there, and then followed that up this weekend by taking her RID mare class at the 2005 DUBLIN HORSE SHOW and being named RESERVE CHAMPION RID MARE of the show!! This lovely 4 year old mare was produced by Rebecca Osborne and Julia Crosbie of Co. Wexford. WELL DONE TIM!!

In other news, Bonnie is safely in foal to Tim for a mid-May 2006 foal. This will be a 3/4 sibling to Glimmer...think FILLY!!

We are pleased to welcome the latest addition to our herd...Lionwood Glimmerglass! Hermione aka Lionwood Waterwitch delivered a gorgeous purebred filly by Huntingfield Proud Tim on 22 May! "Glimmer" is everything we hoped for from this breeding and more...perfect limbs, a strong hip, lovely angles all around, and the sweetest and most laid back temperament you can imagine. Glimmer will remain with us here at Flying Harp Farm and we look forward to watching her mature.

Bonnie is pleased to see two of her foals doing well under saddle. Frankie (aka Druidhill Daemon Lover) finished out the 2004 season at the Region VI USDF Championships, where he was third in the USDF/Great American Region 6 Open Training Level Championships AND Open Training Level Reserve Champion in the Northwest Dressage Championships class. Congratulations to Frankie's owner Susan Connors!

And Holly (aka Lionwood Seventh Heaven R.I.D.), who will be 3 years old in May, was backed for the first time by her owner Sue Holland last week. Sue reports that Holly didn't even flick an eyelash when she mounted and then walked around like a pro for her very first ride!

And not to leave out "Bonnie-girl" Belle, click here to read about her adventures in combined driving last year. Well done kids!!

Irish Draught foal

Today we said goodbye to Angus (aka Lionwood Kinsale's Lad) who left us for his new home in Virginia. His transport delayed due to wintry weather conditions here in the Midwest, Angus walked down our long snowy lane in the dark and hopped right aboard the awaiting van without so much as blinking an eye...as if it is completely normal to leave your friends behind in the middle of the night to go for a ride with complete strangers! Even though we go through this process every year, it never ceases to amaze us how brave and trusting our babies are in these situations. We have great aspirations for Angus as he is to be raised as an R.I.D. stallion prospect. We hope the future brings the very best for our dear boy and his new owner Ken.
